Is there something dirty about "Intercourse"?

I wrote the songs for "Intercourse" in the mid to late '60s. In these songs you can hear the influence of the 'Beatles' and the 'Beach Boys'. I was very excited about the idea of us (The Tokens) finally doing an album of original songs on which we play almost all of the instruments as well as perform all the vocals. I was going through a pretty blue period in my mid-to-late teens. This project was the ideal therapy for me. We were creative! Experimental! We used a melotron on some of the cuts, (A Melotron is a keyboard instrument. Each key plays an individual tape of an actual recorded instrument sound. For example: The strings and flute sounds on "Waiting For Something".) It's also the one and only time I played the violin on any of our records. I used my dad's violin to create a tremelo string effect on "I Want To Make Love To You". Working on the project lifted my spirits considerably. When our label decided not to release it I was crushed.

A little further down the line it was given a mock-release to fulfill a contractual obligation. It was altered from its original form with the addition of our recording of "If I Were A Carpenter" which didn't at all fit as far as I was concerned. But who cared?!? Few were printed. Even fewer were shipped. An original vinyl copy of "Intercourse" by The Tokens is now considered a collectors item worth thousands of dollars. Now it's available on CD in its original form on B.T. Puppy Records. It feels good! I am delighted that it lives all these years later.
